Travel & Tourism
Key Stage 4
The BTEC level 1 in Travel and Tourism qualification is a great choice for our students for many reasons. It allows our students to broaden their knowledge of the UK and the wider world, whilst inspiring them to consider a career in the travel and tourism sector.
BTEC is a vocational based qualification. BTEC in Travel and Tourism is a formal qualification currently offered as an option in years 10 and 11.
Travel and Tourism has been delivered since 2016/17 academic year.
During the 2016/17 academic year, all students completed two core units:
Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations – this unit covers what the different types of UK destinations have to offer, as well as locating tourist UK destinations and routes.
Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism Destinations - this unit covers knowing the major international travel and tourism destinations and gateways, investigating the appeal of international travel and tourism destinations to different types of visitor and being able to plan international travel to meet the needs of visitors.
During academic year 2017/18 students will complete
Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector this unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different component industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector
Unit 6: Travel and tourism customer service where students will investigate travel and tourism customer service, explore the needs and expectations of different types of customer in the travel and tourism sector whilst understanding the importance of customer service to travel and tourism organisations.

Unit 1 is externally assessed
The UK Travel and Tourism Sector
Students will understand the UK travel and tourism sector and its importance to the UK economy. Know about the industries, and key organisations, within the travel and tourism sector, their roles and interrelationships. Understand the role of consumer technology in the travel and tourism sector
Spring term / Summer term
Unit 6 is internally assessed
Travel and tourism customer service
Students will investigate travel and tourism customer service; explore the needs and expectations of different types of customer in the travel
